I have a vague long-term plan for a six month Sahara overland extravaganza, with up to four full desert crossings (i.e. Morocco -Mauritania- Senegal- Mali- Niger- Algeria- Tunisia- Libya- Chad- Sudan- Egypt).

Just need a window of peace in Chad and Darfur. And a free winter.

Yup, that about sums up my Norway experience too. Although for Arctic scenery, Greenland is even more stunning. And if you think that it's expensive, try Iceland. Or not.

How was the Hurtigruten? I found it very snobby and full of the nearly dead.

Im posting this here due to not seeing a contact email address for you anywhere within the site >_<

So..excuse the seemingly random comment posting :P

To whom it may concern;

I recently discovered your site while browsing for new link partners for our website.

I was wondering if we could organise some sort of link exchange - we own two sites, www.destinationtenerife.com (a general Tenerife tourist/resident guide site) and www.tenerifedining.com (a restaurant database for Tenerife - with over 500 restaurants listed, with maps, user reviews, ratings, and much more). I feel that both of these sites have content within them that will be of interest to your visitors.

If you wish to work with us, you can send us some text over for us to either add a sidebar link (on a page of your choosing), or even just a simple textual link.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Norway is really beautiful, but expensive. And remember to bring your own beer, as one there costs about twenty dollars.

That was a great write up. Everyone should have the Trans-Siberian railway high on their travel list.

Hi Anton, I'm afraid that my central Asia experience is too far in the past to be of much help in this regard. Re. trains, the only thing I can think of is just playing around on poezda.net, which might have information on trains that run from Tashkent westwards, and also poking around on seat61.com, which is just an excellent resource for train travel in general.

Regarding the ferry, that's likely to be ever trickier. Back when I was in Baku (2000) there were similarly unsubstantiated rumours of ferries from Baku to various points east, but they never seemed to have a publicly available timetable. My guess is that if you turned up in Aqtau, you'd have a fairly good chance of being able to get onto some sort of boat going to Baku, but that does rather depend on how long you're prepared to hang about in Aqtau, and how much Russian you speak. You may want to ask about it on the lonelyplanet.com forums, if you haven't already, as there's always a chance there'll be someone there who's done the trip recently and that's the most reliable advice you're likely to find, I would've thought.

Good luck!
