Had a freezing (-20 degrees) New Year in an unheated, privately rented youth hostel in Tighnabruaich once, which was a riot. But not strictly on an island.

Otherwise, my few Scottish explorations have been limited to the mainland.

Yes, the No Midge element is very appealing. Also, I'm fairly sure a friend of mine went to Mull at the end of January and neither froze to death nor drowned in a bog, so my hopes are high.

I'd love to go to the Outer Hebrides, and to Orkney and Shetland, but given the time available for Easter, and my ban on internal flights, the islands closer to home seem more doable. Have you ever been to any of the islands before? I went to Skye with my parents years and years ago, and remember thinking it was gorgeous.

Look on the bright side. No mosquitoes in March.

I'd be interested in how it goes: we were intending to have a week in the Outer Hebrides last year before we split up.
